The Suffolk Sheep Society South of Ireland is the largest standalone Ovine breed society operating a Pedigree Suffolk Breeding Program to Irish Suffolk Sheep Breeders.
Trading under EU Legislation
The Breeding program was officially approved on June 30th 2021 by the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine within the South of Ireland and allows the breeders to trade under EU legislation within Ireland and into Europe and further afield.
Pedigree Status of Irish Suffolk Sheep
The breeding program exists to safeguard the preservation, integrity and improvement of the Irish Suffolk Sheep breed by committing to a strict breeding programme, maintaining breed characteristics and using all available technology and information to improve efficiency and profitability of the Irish Sheep Industry.
The Society maintains a register of the particulars of pedigree status and performance of eligible pedigree Irish Suffolk Sheep. The breeding program is strictly adhered to, and genotyping of animals is extensively used to maintain the integrity of the breed and the Flock Book.
